What to expect

  • lessons will always concentrate first on healthy sound production and vocal confidence

    • throughout the term, students and I work on their musicianship skills; eg. ear training and reading music

  • practicing at home:

    • we don’t usually think of it this way, but singing involves athleticism and repetitive training

      • in motor learning, an unwanted technique will imprint as quickly as one we are trying to reinforce, so I make sure technical tasks are repeatable in the studio before I assign practice at home.

  • subscription enrolment:

    • It’s for term: mid-September (or student’s personal start date) to mid-June. This way I can set up stages of training for each singer.

  • growth experiences are available to students:

    • optional masterclasses with visiting clinicians*

    • optional studio recitals (within Alberta Health guidelines during pandemic)*

      *additional fees apply

Do you qualify?

12 years+ welcomed regardless of experience or aptitude.

Introductory Lessons

So that singers and their parents can experience the studio atmosphere and my approach, everyone begins with an Introductory Lesson, before committing to a term enrolment.

Introductory Lessons are 30 minutes long, and are offered without obligation to continue.

We will discuss the student’s singing goals and my teaching priorities for every singer; we’ll explore pitch and current range; and I’ll conduct a portion of a lesson.

Introductory Lessons are billed at the studio hourly rate, and will be pro-rated into the subscription fees once the singer is enrolled.

Our daughter began voice lessons with Susan in the spring of 2018. Prior to taking lessons with Susan she had enjoyed singing and had been involved in choir in school settings. After taking lessons with Susan her passion for singing has multiplied many times over and her confidence has grown by leaps and bounds.
